DETROIT METRO SPORTS COMMISSION PREPARES FOR 2008 AAU JUNIOR OLYMPIC GAMES AND 2009 NCAA MEN’s FINAL FOUR®

NAMES NEW OPERATIONS STAFF

DETROIT (Oct. 19, 2007) -- The Detroit Metro Sports Commission (DMSC) announced today that Sean Krabach has been promoted to Senior Manager, Event Operations effective immediately.

Krabach will immediately assume day-to-day operational responsibilities for all DMSC-hosted events including the 2008 AAU Junior Olympic Games, one of the world’s largest amateur sporting events that will feature more than 12,000 age-group athletes competing in over 20 sports. Krabach will also be responsible for Game Management of the 2009 NCAA Men’s Final Four at Ford Field.

Krabach has been with the DMSC since 2002 and also served a two-year assignment as Volunteer Services Manager for the Super Bowl XL Host Committee in the capacity of loaned employee from the DMSC. Krabach is a native of Port Huron, Mich., a graduate of Northern Michigan University and currently resides in Redford, Mich.

“Sean brings a wide range of capabilities and major event experience to this position including Super Bowl XL and the 2003 AAU Junior Olympic Games,” said Dave Beachnau, DMSC executive director. “The AAU Junior Olympic Games rivals the Summer Olympics as a logistical exercise, and it’s very important to our role as Local Organizing Committee to have someone with Sean’s skills directing our large events including the game management element of the 2009 NCAA Men’s Final Four.”

In other DMSC news, Mattie Crawford has been appointed Operations Manager for the 2008 AAU Junior Olympic Games.  Crawford is a recent graduate of Central Michigan University and an intern at the Amateur Athletic Union’s national office the past two summers.  She will join the DMSC on October 22nd.
