FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact(s): Dave Beachnau/Detroit Metro Sports Commission Kurt Kosmowski/The Kosmowski Group ALL LANES OPEN!NCAA SELECTS DETROIT FOR 2009 BOWLING CHAMPIONSHIPDETROIT (Oct. 5, 2007) – The NCAA Women’s Bowling Committee has selected Detroit as the host site for the 2009 NCAA Women’s Bowling Championships as announced today by the NCAA, the University of Detroit Mercy and the Detroit Metro Sports Commission (DMSC). The event will be held April 9-11 at Super Bowl in Canton, Mich., in double-elimination format featuring the top eight teams from 49 NCAA institutions that host bowling as a varsity sport. “The Detroit Metro Sports Commission is pleased to announce the selection of Detroit as the site for this prestigious NCAA championship event,” said Dave Beachnau, DMSC executive director. “Our growing relationship with the NCAA, along with the tremendous support of the University of Detroit Mercy as the host institution, our venue partner Community Bowling Centers, and Detroit’s long-time status as the bowling capital of the world combined to make the bid for the 2009 championships successful.” As host institution, the UDM will serve as co-host in partnership with the DMSC and the venue. “The University of Detroit Mercy is committed to making the 2009 Women’s Bowling Championships a success for the NCAA, the participating student-athletes and the local community,” said Keri Gaither, UDM athletic director. Detroit’s status as bowling capital of the world was a significant strength of the bid effort and Community Bowling Centers has been selected by the DMSC as the host venue. “Community Bowling Centers greatly values our on-going partnership with the Detroit Metro Sports Commission and we look forward to working with the DMSC and the University of Detroit Mercy in welcoming the NCAA to the Super Bowl in 2009,” said Mark Voight, Super Bowl proprietor.
