For the second straight year in the Detroit Sports Commission Prep Kickoff Classic, Allen Park opened its season with a victory against Taylor Kennedy. The Jaguars' most recent triumph came via a 62-0 shutout in the Day 2 opener.
The scoring started right away for the Jaguars with an 18-yard TD run by junior Issac Montie, which capped off a two-play, 43-yard opening drive.
Senior Allen Park passer Antonio Mangiapane took care of business from there with two straight TD passes, the first being of the 20-yard variety and the second being of the 19-yard variety. The Jags followed that up with two straight rushing touchdowns to close out the first quarter.
After junior Mike Tenerowicz scored on a 59-yard run with 9:14 to go in the second quarter, the Jags went on a scoring drought, failing to score again until senior RB Michael Bress punched it in from two yards out with 10:01 to play in the fourth.
Senior John O'Dowd's one-yard rushing TD with 2:08 in the fourth completed the scoring for the afternoon.
Mangiapane, who finished 4-of-4 for 122 yards and three touchdowns, received the Legacy Football Most Outstanding Player for the Jags.
"It was a great win," Mangiapane said. "I think it made us better as a team, and put energy in us to get ready for next week."
Sophomore wide receiver Savion Gray received the Legacy Football MOP for Kennedy.
