PREP FOOTBALL KICK-OFF:
GAME MATCH-UPS ANNOUNCED FOR 2010 BIG DAY PREP SHOWDOWN

OPENING-WEEK HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL SHOWCASE TO CELEBRATE 6TH YEAR WITH SEVEN GAMES IN THREE DAYS

DETROIT (April 23, 2010) – Detroit Sports announced today the game match-ups for the Big Day Prep Showdown (BDPS) VI to be held Aug. 26-28, at Eastern Michigan University’s Rynearson Stadium.   Since its inception in 2005, the Big Day Prep Showdown has been the premier opening-week high school football event in the state of Michigan, and in 2008 was named the Outstanding Locally Created Event by the National Association of Sports Commissions.

Founded and organized annually by Detroit Sports, the Big Day Prep Showdown VI will officially kick-off the 2010 prep football season in Michigan at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 26, with the 109th game in the historic rivalry of Clinton H.S. vs. Manchester H.S., followed by Sterling Heights Stevenson H.S. vs. Howell H.S. at 8 p.m.  The Friday, August 27, match-ups open with a clash of Downriver schools as Melvindale H.S. faces off against Southgate Anderson H.S. at 5 p.m., followed by Northville H.S. vs. White Lake Lakeland H.S. at 8 p.m.  On Saturday, August 28th at 2 p.m., Patrick Henry (Ohio) H.S. takes on St. Charles (Mich.) H.S., followed by Ann Arbor Huron H.S. vs. Chelsea H.S. at 5 p.m., and Ann Arbor Pioneer H.S. vs. Detroit Cass Tech H.S. in the nightcap at 8 p.m.

“The goal of Detroit Sports for the Big Day Prep Showdown has always been to showcase exciting Michigan high school football, and celebrate the school communities in a bowl game-like atmosphere,” said Dave Beachnau, Detroit Sports executive director.  “We are proud of the success of the event and believe that the 6th Big Day Prep Showdown will be a great three days of high school football for fans.”

Advance tickets are $7.75* for students and $9.75* for adults and will be available for purchase at www.detroitsports.org via the Official Big Day Prep Showdown VI on-line ticket partner, TickeTracker.   All tickets at the gate are $10 on August 26 and 27, and $12 on August 28.  Children age five and under are free.   All tickets provide admission for all games on that day. (*including a .75 per-ticket on-line purchase convenience charge)
